The HeartCloud Difference

The answer isn't really our programs. It's how we approach people.

HeartCloud doesn't try to manufacture meaningful moments. We simply try to create opportunities for them to happen. A crafting table. A walk through the marsh. A fishing trip. A holiday gathering. A conversation. A shared meal. The activity often isn't the most important part. The connection is.

🌿 Connection

People are often looking for connection, but many are hesitant to take the first step. We create welcoming, low-pressure opportunities to participate.

🤝 Belonging

What happens next is often the most meaningful part. People return. Friendships form. Participants become volunteers. Volunteers become mentors.

🌱 Purpose

Community members become leaders. Small acts of kindness create larger circles of connection. And kindness, in turn, creates lasting impact.

Proof, not promises

This work is already happening.

We've watched strangers become friends. Participants become volunteers. Volunteers become mentors. Small acts of kindness creating larger circles of connection.

For a Senior in an Adult Family Home

Margaret, 84, takes a fall at 2am.

She can't reach her phone, but she can speak. A quiet "Hey Guardian" wakes up her companion app. Within three seconds, her daughter is alerted, location is shared, and a 911 call is queued with a transcript of what's happening.

"That's the kind of watching we do best. Quiet, kind, and always close." Santa
For a Caregiver on a Long Shift

Marcus, a home-health aide, gets pulled over.

His MyGuardian™ activates with a whisper. Recording is rolling. His sister and his union rep are streaming in. Real-time legal prompts remind him exactly what to say, and what not to say, in the moment, in his preferred language.

"Every helper deserves a helper of their own. That's our job." Mrs. Claus
For a Teen Walking Home

Aisha, 15, walks home from her shift.

She's safe, but she likes knowing her grandma is virtually with her. One word and her route, audio, and video stream privately to her family. Always Free Arrest Mode is on. Always.

"Even the bravest child deserves a guardian on the walk home." Santa

Our Story

It began with two people who enjoyed helping others.

Dan and Elise Kemmis met more than twenty years ago while working together in community media. Long before HeartCloud existed, they found themselves drawn to many of the same things: storytelling, education, community engagement, creativity, mentorship, and creating opportunities for people to connect.

For nearly two decades, Dan has served as The Seattle Santa, bringing joy and connection to thousands of children, families, seniors, and caregivers throughout the Pacific Northwest. Along the way, Elise became Mrs. Claus, helping create the warmth and hospitality that have become hallmarks of their work.

The costumes opened doors, but the real impact came from the conversations, relationships, encouragement, and sense of belonging that followed. HeartCloud Foundation was created to do more of that work.

Today, HeartCloud serves as a home for programs centered around kindness, connection, mentorship, outdoor experiences, storytelling, creativity, and purpose. Built largely through volunteer effort, community partnerships, and the support of people who believe kindness still matters.

Support the Mission
Stories of kindness

Meaningful change often begins with simple moments.

A conversation. A shared experience. A small act of kindness. A reminder that someone matters. Here are a few of the stories that remind us why we continue showing up.

Featured Story

The night a child spoke to Santa.

A large house party. Eighty kids, maybe more. After the gifts and the photos, the family quietly brings out a young man who has been non-verbal his whole life. Santa kneels. They exchange a few words. A tender hug.

Santa stands up to find the family mouth-agape. Some are crying. Some are stunned silent. He didn't realize what had just happened. It was the first time he had ever spoken.

From the Really Good Stories collection
From Student to Santa

One person showed up. Today, he's a respected Santa.

Several years ago, at a free Santa workshop in a public library, exactly one person showed up. We had the nicest conversation. He gave a real-life reason for wanting to be Santa, the kind you don't forget.

A few months later, we said: come aboard. We took him out, taught him by doing, walked through a few real Santa gigs together. Today he's a respected Santa pursuing significant professional opportunities while serving his community.

What began as a conversation became mentorship. What began as mentorship became purpose.
The little wooden car

A few minutes of play. A few hours of fun.

Strawberry Festival. A father is struggling to help his young daughter settle into the busy crowd. The Gnome notices. Pulls a small wooden car out of a pocket. "I was wondering if I could leave this with somebody who might play with it."

Her eyes go wide. A few minutes of play turns into a few hours of fun. Later, the father seeks the Gnome out to say thank you.

Small gestures matter.
Sixteen Christmases

Some families become part of your story.

One family in Mill Creek has invited Santa back year after year for more than fifteen years. We've watched children grow up. We've recreated original photos. One year a son couldn't make it home from college, so a cardboard cutout joined the picture.

Last Christmas, one of those young men brought his fiancée. We welcomed her in and let her sit with Santa, traditions now spanning generations.

It's a reminder that connection grows over time.
Finding purpose again

Purpose often arrives when we begin helping someone else.

HeartCloud has been privileged to work with individuals searching for direction, purpose, companionship, or a new chapter. Through mentorship, community involvement, and opportunities to serve others, we've watched people rediscover confidence and meaning.

The work doesn't ask for prior experience or special skills. It asks for a willingness to show up. What grows from there is often the most meaningful part.

More stories coming as HeartCloud grows.
Donor FAQ

The questions thoughtful donors ask.

We believe stewardship matters as much as kindness. Here are the honest answers to the questions we hear most often from people considering supporting HeartCloud.

How was HeartCloud Foundation founded?

HeartCloud didn't begin with a strategic plan. It began with two people who enjoyed helping others. Dan and Elise Kemmis met more than twenty years ago working in community media. For nearly two decades, Dan has served as The Seattle Santa; Elise became Mrs. Claus. What began as holiday visits gradually grew into mentorship, community events, gatherings, and outreach.

We came to realize that the costumes opened doors, but the real impact came from the conversations, relationships, encouragement, and sense of belonging that followed. HeartCloud Foundation was created to do more of that work.

How much of my donation actually reaches programs?

Our goal is to direct approximately 80 to 90 percent of donor support, whenever possible, toward active programs, outreach, supplies, mentorship, and mission-related community experiences. We believe donor support should create visible, real-world impact.

The remainder funds the operational backbone that makes good programs possible: planning, insurance, bookkeeping, communications, transportation, partnership development, volunteer coordination, and impact measurement. These behind-the-scenes functions aren't always visible, but they help make every program possible.

Is my contribution tax-deductible?

Yes. HeartCloud Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 33-2112666). Your contribution is tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. We're happy to provide a written acknowledgment for your records on request.

What's the difference between program support and general support?

Program support funds a specific initiative such as Crafting With Santa, Go Outside More, the Santa & Mrs. Claus Mentorship program, Thanksgiving Hospitality, or Community Kindness Deliveries.

General support helps sustain and grow the organization itself, including planning, outreach, transportation, supplies, facilities, communication, storytelling, and the countless behind-the-scenes efforts that make community programs possible.

Put simply: program support helps us do the work. General support helps us keep doing the work.

What does a $25,000 gift actually fund?

At the $25,000 level, we expand the Crafting With Santa and Community Kindness Delivery pilot programs:

  • $10,000 funds 20+ crafting sessions across the Pacific Northwest, serving 200-400 direct participants and creating 800-1,000 handmade cards and ornaments.
  • $15,000 funds outreach coordination, transportation, volunteer management, and in-person delivery to 20-40 Adult Family Homes, senior centers, and care facilities, reaching hundreds of seniors and caregivers.

We also collect feedback and outcome data, and share lessons learned publicly so other communities can replicate the model.

What about larger gifts - $50k to $100k?

An investment at the $50,000-$100,000 level allows HeartCloud to stabilize and strengthen its organizational foundation while accelerating program growth. Rather than funding a single event, this level builds the operational capacity that lets multiple programs expand sustainably.

Funding may support:

  • Program expansion and delivery
  • Volunteer and mentor development
  • Media collection and storytelling
  • Website and digital infrastructure
  • Donor and sponsorship development
  • Community outreach and partnerships
  • Program evaluation and impact reporting
  • Administrative and operational systems

We call this building the engine: meaningful programs create stories worth sharing. Stories create awareness. Awareness creates supporters. Supporters create sustainability. Sustainability lets programs grow and reach more people.

And at the $250k-$500k Mission Acceleration level?

This level moves HeartCloud beyond pilot-stage growth into intentional mission acceleration. The goal is not growth for growth's sake. The goal is to reach more people, serve more communities, and deepen program impact while remaining firmly rooted in our mission and values.

Strategic investments would include:

  • Program expansion throughout the Pacific Northwest
  • Community outreach & engagement including volunteer recruitment
  • Media, storytelling & impact documentation
  • Organizational infrastructure: select team members, contractors, and stronger administrative systems

Funding at this level would also let HeartCloud begin exploring foundational elements of The Big Plan: a long-term vision for a permanent home for kindness-centered programs, mentorship, storytelling, outdoor experiences, and eventually animal companionship and sanctuary work.

What is the Founders Circle?

The Founders Circle is a small group of deeply aligned supporters (suggested support: $10,000+) who want to help inform and support the future direction of HeartCloud Foundation.

Founders Circle participants may receive:

  • Early project discussions and updates
  • Invitations to planning conversations and gatherings
  • Opportunities to share ideas and feedback
  • Recognition as an early foundational supporter
  • Participation in selected advisory and stewardship discussions
  • Direct relationship-building with the HeartCloud team
  • Opportunities to help support future programs and initiatives

If this resonates, we would genuinely love to begin a conversation. Email TheSeattleSanta@Gmail.com.

How do you measure impact?

Some impacts are easy to count:

  • Community events hosted
  • Cards created and delivered
  • Participants served
  • Volunteers engaged
  • Mentorship opportunities provided

But some of the impacts we value most are harder to place in a spreadsheet. A new friendship. A renewed sense of purpose. A senior who feels remembered. A volunteer who discovers they still have something important to contribute. A participant who arrives feeling uncertain and leaves feeling connected.

We collect simple participant, volunteer, and host-site feedback to track engagement and morale, and we openly share findings whenever possible.

Can I designate my gift to a specific program?

Yes. You can support specific programs (Go Outside More, Crafting With Santa, Santa & Mrs. Claus Mentorship, Thanksgiving Hospitality, Community Kindness Deliveries) or provide general operating support.

When you make a designated gift, the funds go to that program. General support helps us plan and operate, then deploy resources wherever they're most needed.

How do I give in a way other than online?

We welcome checks, ACH transfers, donor-advised fund grants, stock gifts, and other non-cash gifts. Please email TheSeattleSanta@Gmail.com or call 206-718-7237 and we'll help you with the details.

What's your long-term vision?

Our dream is to build something lasting: a sustainable organization rooted in dignity, kindness, stewardship, companionship, creativity, and meaningful human connection. Programs that continue serving people, communities, and eventually animals long after we're gone.

We are still in early chapters. Building carefully and responsibly. Investing in the systems that allow programs to operate safely and effectively. Listening, learning, and improving as we grow.

What if I don't have money to give? Can I still help?

Absolutely. Not everyone is called to volunteer. Not everyone is in a position to donate. That's okay. You can still help.

  • Attend an event
  • Share our story
  • Invite a friend
  • Follow our journey
  • Encourage someone who might benefit from participating

Kindness grows when it is shared. The smallest actions often create the biggest ripples.

Stewardship is a promise we keep.
As HeartCloud grows, we remain committed to balancing compassion, sustainability, and direct service in a way that honors both the mission and the trust placed in us by our supporters.
